Des Plaines Swimming was established in 2006 in an effort to bring competitive swimming opportunities to the Des Plaines area and for the benefit of Maine West High School. Des Plaines Swimming is a registered not-for-profit organization in the State of Illinois. It operates to benefit the members of the club with affordable, yet quality instruction. Des Plaines Swimming is set up for future expansion of other aquatic areas. However, to start, Des Plaines Swimming operates the River Racers Swim Team. The River Racers began as a 25-member first-year team. To date, it has grown to a 100+ membership thanks to the merge of Park Ridge Swim Club II in 2008. Over the years, under the guidance and craftsmanship of Head Coach Mike Tuntland, the River Racers has brought on a very experienced coaching staff who all shares the same values and principles in swim training. It has been that shared value and principle that has allowed the River Racers to be a successful club and has even allowed competitive successes to take place at the National Level. To date, seventeen athletes have qualified for Regional Competition, seven athletes have qualified for State Competition, and two athletes have participated in USA Swimming Zone Competition. The bar is set high for future athletes and staffs to continue to celebrated success of Des Plaines Swimming. Today, Des Plaines Swimming serves swimmers from all throughout the northwest suburbs with its concentration on the Maine Township, Des Plaines, and Park Ridge communities. Des Plaines Swimming looks forward to the future to expand its programs and services as it continues to strive to provide quality aquatic programs. |
