WELCOME TO DES PLAINES RIVER RACERS SWIMMING
Welcome to the Des Plaines River Racers Swim Team, operated by Des Plaines Swimming, a not-for-profit agency. The River Racers strive to provide competitive swim training and conditioning tailored to meet the needs of all of its membership. Please feel free to explore our site and if you have any questions, please contact us at info@desplainesswimming.org
WHO WE ARE
The River Racers Swim Team, formed in 2006, was formed in order to fulfill the need of a competitive swim training program that operates in Des Plaines on a year-round basis. It also operates for the benefit of the Maine Township High School District 207 swimming programs to offer early competitive swim training so that athletes have the basics and are ready to compete in the highly competitive high school swimming venues. In addition to this, the team is also here to encourage social and emotional development of its members and to promote healthy lifestyles.
PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY
The Des Plaines River Racers Swim Team is a competitive swimming program that is aimed at allowing swimmers to learn the sport of swimming and/or continue their training. No matter what level, we still emphasize technical skill and ability with all swimmers.
Swimmers will be placed in age/skill appropriate groups and trained according to their needs. Our main focus is on technical skill before strength and endurance. Strength and endurance come only after technical mastery has been completed. Swimmers will have a chance to learn the technical aspects of the strokes. They will also be provided several “tools” in order to fix their strokes and make them proper and efficient.
PRACTICE LOCATION
The River Racers call the Maine West High School Pool its home. Practices are held at the aquatic center, located on the south end of the school. The address to Maine West is 1755 S. Wolf Rd. Click here for directions.
PRACTICE SCHEDULE
Our daily schedule varies according to the high school availability. Practices are generally held on weeknights after high school activities. Weekend hours vary and again are subject to the usage of the pool. For a detailed daily practice schedule, check out our latest calendar available online.
